Bishops Even Championship Series With Game 2 Win Over Eagles

Bishop England kept hopes for another state title alive and evened the series with Chesnee Wednesday

The Battling Bishops took an early lead and never looked back in Game 2 of the AA State Championship Series.

Bishop England tied the series with Chesnee on a 3-1 win on the back of a dominant pitching performance from left-hander Ryan Rogers, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required).

The Bishops struck early, plating all three runs in an explosive second inning during which eight men went to the plate. Jonathan Browning knocked in the first two runs with a single up the middle. Later in the inning Reed Fosberry singled to right to bring in the other run.

Chesnee's lone run came in the third inning after the Eagles managed to get runners on the corners with no outs and the heart of the line-up coming to the plate. Rogers managed to get out of the inning only giving up a single unearned rune though.

The Bishops lost their Game 3 starting pitcher to an on-field injury in the bottom of the third inning. Tradd Lowman was struck in the face by a throw while running the bases and left the game for the hospital.

With the injury to Lowman, Patrick Clarey will get the start in Game 3. Clarey was last on the mound Monday in the Bishops' 2-1 opening game loss to Chesnee.

Bishop England is playing for its sixth state title in 11 years, coincidentally each of the previous five titles have come in odd numbered years (2003, '05, '07, 09 and '11).
