Bond Hearing for Driver Shot by Deputy on Hold

The bond hearing for Ricky Jennings, originally scheduled for Monday, was instead put on hold and has not yet been rescheduled

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputy who allegedly shot a suspect during a struggle following a traffic stop last week has been cleared by SLED and the Georgetown County Solicitor's Office.

The bond hearing for that suspect, Ricky Jennings, 52, of Sugarland, Texas was postponed Monday and has not yet been rescheduled.

Jennings is charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for blue lights by CCSO. The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is also charging Jennings with assault first degree and resisting arrest, according to a CCSO statement.

On June 2 CCSO deputy Kim Poirer attempted to stop a U-Haul truck near McClellanville on Hwy. 17, but the truck didn't stop until it had crossed into Georgetown County at Pole Yard Way. The driver allegedly refused to comply with the deputy's instruction and allegedly tried to grab her gun after being tazed several times, according to the Sheriff's Office. Poirer fired twice at Jennings hitting him in the arm and torso as he was allegedly reaching into his pockets.

Jennings spent several days in a North Myrtle Beach Hospital following the incident and was recently transferred to MUSC ahead of Monday's cancelled bond hearing.
