Charges Filed in Butler Homicide Case

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office charged a Ravenel man with murder in the homicide of James Butler whose body was discovered Friday

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has filed charges against a Ravenel man after two children discovered a body behind a vacant house Friday morning.

Harold Lee Jones, Jr., 19, of 6011 Branton Road Lot 1, Ravenel, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and murder, according to a CCSO statement.

Investigators say Jones was seen driving the victim's truck on Roper Run Road Thursday night. James Butler's body was found behind a vacant home on Roper Run Road Friday morning by two children playing hide and seek.

Butler had been shot in the back of the head and stabbed in the back several times, according to the arrest documents.

The Sheriff's Office received several tips pointing to Jones, according to the statement, including that he had allegedly threatened to kill Butler due to an argument the pair had earlier. Investigators also say Jones implicated himself while speaking with detectives.

Jones was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Friday. At a bond hearing Saturday Jones was denied bond on the murder charge and given a $50,000 bond on the firearm charge.
