Charleston Man Accused of Running Down Ex-girlfriend in His Car

Peter Jenkins was taken into custody after a chase through West Ashley and North Charleston

A Charleston man is behind bars accused of running over his ex-girlfriend with his car, accordinig to Charleston Police.

Peter Jenkins, 52, of 5 Heathwood Drive, Charleston, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, resisting arrest, failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension — more than first.

The victim and two witnesses told Charleston Police officers that Jenkins and the victim, a former girlfriend, argued in front of Ashley Grove Apartments near the intersection of Ashley Hall Road and North Woodmere Drive and that Jenkins drove away only to turn his vehicle around and drive onto the sidewalk to strike the victim. She was tossed up over the vehicle and onto the sidewalk, according to a CPD incident report.

The witnesses confirmed the victims account to officers at the scene while another officer went to Jenkins' home in search of him.

Jenkins was apprehended by North Charleston Police following a chase through parts of West Ashley and North Charleston.
