About 20 minutes after Driggers finished the race, the first of at least two explosions went off near the finish line. As of 5:00 p.m., the AP was reporting that two people were killed and 22 were injured as a result of the blast.

A father of three, Driggers, was walking back to his hotel, on the phone with his wife when the explosions occurred. However, he did not realize it was anything out of the ordinary until he checked his Twitter feed and, instead of seeing race results he saw reports of the explosion.

The Boston Marathon was Driggers' second, having also run in it in 2011. "There is always a lot of military and emergency personnel, especially with the race in a big city," Driggers told Patch. "But there seemed like more this year."
