The City of Charleston is seeking volunteers for its 2012 First Day Festival. The event will be held from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 19 at Liberty Square at the S.C. Aquarium.

Each year, thousands of students participate in the event celebrating the beginning of the school year. And they're sent home with free school supplies to prepare them for the first day of school.

Individuals and groups are encouraged to volunteer. According to the city, volunteers are needed for:

• festival set-up
• assist in the kid’s zone
• assist with boat rides
• festival greeters
• line facilitators
• school supplies packing
• water and recycle stations
• assist with parking and traffic
• exhibitor set-up
