S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley gets vindication over indictment allegations

S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley released a copy of a letter she received from the IRS stating it determined an investigation into the Sikh Society of South Carolina was not warranted for the 2009 tax year.

"As we said from the very beginning, there was not an ounce of truth to any of these accusations – they were totally contrived, totally false, and it is a tremendous shame that once again the good names of the governor and her family were dragged through the mud by a media all too eager to believe anonymous sources and unaccountable bloggers," Haley Spokesman Rob Godfrey said in a statement released to media outlets across the state.

The letter reads in part:

After further consideration of your organization, we have detennined an examination is not warranted at this time for the above tax period. We did not conduct an examination for the above period. Do not consider this as an examination that resulted in no change to your tax liabilities.

On Thursday in the case, and published a copy of an IRS letter informing the Sikh Society it planned to investigate its tax exempt status.
