Labor Day Brawl at Citadel Mall Leads to Three Arrests
Three people were arrested Monday following a brawl that started in the Citadel Mall parking lot.
A group of people wielding a tire iron and a shovel attacked a car leaving the Citadel Mall Monday shortly before 5 p.m., leading to three arrests.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office charged Corey Renaldo Gabe, 18, of 1951 Hazelwood Drive, Sheryl Fields Gabe, 46, also of 1951 Hazelwood Drive and Taylin Greene, 17, of 2000 Hazelwood Drive with assault and battery — 3rd degree, according to a CCSO incident report.
The victims, two women ages 19 and 20 and two 16-year-old juveniles, said they were chased from the mall parking lot by a group of boys armed with a tire iron and a shovel and other objects. As the victims fled in a car across Orleans Road onto Hazelwood Drive, they said the group chasing them hit the car with the tire iron and other objects. One of the pursuers, armed with the shovel jumped in front of the fleeing car and hit it with the shovel, the report states.
At that point the woman driving the fleeing car attempted to reverse away from the attackers and collided with another vehicle, the occupants of which corroborated the victims' statements.
After the crash the victims exited their car and were confronted by a group of approximately five to seven people including men and women. At that point one of the victims was struck in the face with a tire iron, the report states. A witness identified Sheryl Gabe as the assailant that struck one of the victims with the tire iron. The witness was also able to identify Corey Gabe, the son of Sheryl Gabe, and Greene as taking part in the attack.
Another car in the area was also damaged during the attack, the report states, one taillight was broken when it was struck by the handle of a tire jack that was thrown during the brawl.
