Opinion: GOP at Fault for Poor Economy

S.C. State Sen. Robert Ford says the Republican Party's united opposition to everything Pres. Barack Obama supports or proposes is to blame for a slow economic recovery

By Sen. Robert Ford

Since 2010, Congressional Republicans have blocked every piece of legislation proposed by President Obama that addressed job creation, small business and taxes that benefit the low income and middle-class citizens. Any measures that would have improved the economy for our country have been decapitated and left demasked of honorable recognition. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House, have bragged unabashedly, about the fact they would not do anything to help this economy as long as Barack Obama is President.

This reminds me of Greek Mythology, where men considered themselves "Gods" and felt they could involuntarily control the fate of mankind by exiling anyone who does not uphold their flawless standards and their own political agenda.  Today, it is these men who use their pens as swords to punish the innocent, who would benefit from the economy’s growth because of the name Obama.  Today, it is these men who use their voices as inflated political egos to denounce anything equated with economic growth, because it reigns under the Banner of Obama.  Today, it is these men who claim to Love the American People, but would rather see American people in a “Depressed Economy” instead of a “Progressed Economy” all because of the name Obama.

Question:

So, who’s Really at Fault for Stopping Growth in our Economy?

Answer:

Tea-Party Americans.

Who was to blame the first two (2) years BHO was president? The Democrats controlled both houses and the WH, making it impossible for the Republicans to block anything. Again, Mr. Fo'd, you are attempting to blame Republicans for you party's follies.

The first 2 years of the presidency were TARP and ARRA. I can provide links to many news stories that report that the consensus among economists has been that it helped stave off deeper job losses and supported a modest recovery.

Democrats didn't "control" the 111th Senate, they had 59 if you include the 2 independents and the Republicans threatened filibuster (which is broken now so they didn't have to actually execute one) anytime they wanted. Facts and results should be more important than partisanship, why aren't they with the GOP anymore?

@maizenbluedoc

Impossible to block, yet they tried for four years anyway with Obamacare, culminating in an embarrassing supreme court loss. They thought they had that one in the bag, just like citizens united.

Sen Ford is a fool. Who controlled the CONGRESS for two years..... and the SENATE? I am so sick of the DEMS blaming everything first on BUSH ... and then the GOP. They can never take the blame for anything. The reason we are in this mess is because WASHINGTON SPENDS WAY MORE THAN IT TAKES IN. If you cannot understand that MR FORD, you don't belong in Washington.

I'd love to point out the very many factual errors in your 'comment,' gretchen - but it's just too funny! I *thank you very much* for posting it!!

Senator Ford: Thanks for having the guts to stand up against the GOP lie machine. Rather than stand up for our country, sadly the Republican party has become the party of lies, distortion and obstructionist government. They claim to want to save middle-class jobs, but instead of taking action on the jobs bill, they voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act at least 33 times. Their VP candidate, Paul Ryan is only passed two bills during his entire ten years in Congress, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/12/paul-ryan-bills_n_1769816.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular

I don't care for either partys spending habits, but your truly a fool if you think the last 12 years of Bush tax cuts has done any good, yet they want to double down on that same failed policy. Republicans are only the party of fiscal responsibility when a Democrat is in office. When they control the purse strings it's spend, spend, spend on the war machine. Republican ideology has long since separated itself from reality. There a bunch of bible thumping nuts.

Democrats = Tax and Spend. It's what they know best, just ahead of being power hungry Nanny's who want dictate what, what and how where allowed to live our lives. The Obama administration is the most non-transparent, corrupt and brain dead bunch of Chicago thugs this country has ever seen in its history. We need less government. We need the government to stop trying to control and tell private corporations and businesses what to do. We need a government that stops putting the needs and wants of the Super PAC's and special interest groups in front of the people that elected them to office. We need more representatives like Tim Scott who listen to and care about the people he represents. The entire federal government needs a course in ethics and to read, defend and support "We The People's" rights and freedoms, instead of trying to suppress them. Our great country is a democracy that thrives on capitalism. Stop turning our country in the United Socialist States of America.

1) From which presidents and majority congresses does our debt come from? GOP

2) How many actual examples of non-transparency, corruption and "brain dead bunch of Chicago thugs" can you give us? NONE

3) What exactly does the GOP mean when it says "less government"? MORE SPENDING, DONE BY GIVING IT ALL TO BUSINESSES INSTEAD OF DOING THE WORK ITSELF FOR LESS MONEY

4) what exactly does the GOP mean when it says "less government"? LESS REGULATIONS ON BUSINESSES, MORE REGULATIONS ON CITIZENS - shoot, thanks to the same GOP, it's now legal for a company to require employees to give their facebook passwords, and can fire employees for what they post online

5) Who exactly does Tim Scott listen to and care about? HIMSELF AND HIS DONORS - name for us *one thing* he's done for citizens in his 18 years in politics
