Rose Challenges Scott on Veteran Benefits

Democratic candidate for South Carolina's U.S. House District 1 seat held a press conference Thursday near the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center to attack Rep. Tim Scott's record on support for veterans

Bobbie Rose, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives District 1, laid into Rep. Tim Scott (R-Charleston) over veterans' benefits outside the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center Thursday.

"This facility and facilities like this across the country are at risk because of proposed cuts in funding," Rose said. "The recent budget passed by the House and voted for by my opponent Tim Scott is 98 pages long without a single mention of the word veterans. Although it does contain over $11 billion in cuts that affect our veterans, there is zero mentions of veterans."

Rose said in contrast to Scott, who was a vocal supporter of the Paul Ryan budget plan the House passed, she promised she will never support a budget that "doesn't support veterans."

Rose added that the issue of benefits for military veterans is one of the most important issues in the campaign.

"I think it's pretty much at the top of the list," Rose said. "We owe them our very freedom, and we have a contract with our veterans. They go on the front lines, they put their lives on the line, and when they come home they expect, and they should feel confident that we'll take care of them the way they took care of us when they went to fight."

What Tim Scott says and what Tim Scott does are two different things, Gretchen. Three weeks ago, he gave out paper certificates of appreciation to WW II vets; before that, though, he voted to cut $11 billion in vets benefits.

Smoke and mirrors ........that's the tactic Scott has been using along with the GOP. They are quick to increase the defense budget so we can send our troops to a war zone but they consistently cut benefits for those same troops when they come back home.

We need Bobbie Rose as our District One Representative in Congress. She believes in leadership, responsibility and accountability. Bobbie says: “I believe a Representative is elected to be a liaison between the constituents of his/her district, and the Federal Government. Their role is to evaluate, advocate, negotiate and collaborate on our behalf to ensure that we receive what we are due from the Federal Government, and to protect our best interests. I intend to use my skills to ensure that those communication tools are used for the advancement of the people in South Carolina’s 1st. District.” Her views on Veterans is much stronger than Tim Scott. She honors those Who Have Served. Bobbie Rose says "First and foremost, we must provide every assistance to our military men and women as they return home and re-enter the workforce. They have made unimaginable sacrifices for our country, and deserve a guarantee of adequate medical funding, jobs programs, housing accommodations and our commitment to making each transition to the civilian workforce an honorable one."
