Suspect, Officer in Saturday Shootout Identified

Charleston Police released the identities of the officer and suspect that exchanged fire Saturday during a traffic stop, SLED is investigating the case

The Charleston Police Department released the identities of the officer and the suspect involved in a shootout on I-526 Saturday night.

Officer Cory Goldstein was hit multiple times while chasing a suspect, who allegedly turned and fired on him after abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot. Police identified 26-year-old Mark Blake, Jr. as the suspect in a statement released to media on Sunday.

Both Goldstein and Blake were transported to an area hospital for treatment Saturday night, and both are recovering.
