Police: Beer-Tossing Man Arrested
Charleston Police say a drunk man walking down a West Ashley street threw a full can of beer at a cruiser — with predictable results
A West Ashley man found himself facing multiple charges Friday after a tossing a nearly full can of beer at an approaching car, according to a Charleston Police Department report.
The man, who was drunk, according to the report, was walking down the middle of Cross Street in West Ashley drinking a can of Milwaukee's Best Friday evening when he decided to throw the beer at an approaching Charleston Police crusier. The beer can hit the car's windshield leaving a deep scratch in the glass.
The officer in the car stopped and charged the man with damage to personal property, public intoxication and open container.
The beer can, dented from the impact with the cruiser's windshield, was still nearly half full when the officer retrieved it.
The man told the officer he didn't realize the approaching car was a police vehicle when he threw the beer at it. He said he thought it was his girlfriend trying to run him over again, according to the report.
