West Ashley Shooting Leaves 1 Dead

Charleston Police are investigating the killing of a man who was sleeping in his car outside of Famous Joe's Bar Saturday morning

 

Marley Lion, 17, was found shot five times on the ground beside his car outside of Famous Joe's Bar at 1662 Savannah Hwy. early Saturday morning.

Charleston Police responded to the business for a report of gunshots in the area and discovered the shooting victim. Lion told the officer two men approached his car while he was sleeping in it and opened fire on him, hitting him five times. Lion was taken to MUSC where he later died, according to Charleston Police Public Information Officer Charles Francis.

The assailants were described as two black males, one of them, the one who fired the shots was wearing blue jeans and black clothing, according to a police report. Lion told the officer after the shooting the men fled down a gravel path next to the bar toward Yew Street. The shooting was reported at 4:05 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Charleston Police at 577-7434.

Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information in the case. Anonymous tips can be left by calling 554-1111 or 1-800-222-8477. Information can also be sent through the Crime Stoppers website at www.5541111.com. Crime Stoppers also accepts information via text at 274637, make sure to mark the beginning of each text with "tip123."

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the victim's age as 25, which was taken from the initial Charleston Police Department incident report on the shooting. We have since learned the victim, Marley Lion, was 17.

Thank you for the note, I have corrected that in the story. As mentioned in the correction notice above the incorrect age was taken from the Police Incident report on the shooting that was provided to us Monday morning.

I hope they catch them. West Ashley is becoming far too dangerous. Many cars in the Ashley Harbor, March Cove, and Ashley Hall Plantation neighborhoods were broken into last night. Thanks to the WA Patch for keeping people informed of the crimes that are committed in our community.
