What Should Go Here: Floor It Now
Coming out of the Great Recession empty storefronts are pretty common, but we want to know what Patch.com users want to see fill those empty business properties
This spot on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard hasn't been closed long enough to look like an eyesore yet, and not long ago it looked very different under a coat of white paint as a Goodwill Resale store. Located next to Pier One Imports, near the Citadel Mall and other large retail centers it should be an attractive spot.

I don't know about this spot, but we need a craft store like Michaels to move into West Ashley. We have nothing like that here.

I would like to see an artist co-op go in there. We don't have enough outlets for real art in West Ashley. It might bring in other stores that would raise the quality level of the businesses on Sam Rittenberg. It is starting to look like a "light industrial" area.

Its sad, but seems all the money is being invested in N. Charleston and Mt. Pleasant. So many empty properties now. Regions closed their branch and didn't try to re-open a new branch. The fast food companies are closing quickly. In someways that is a positive as I see local owned restaurants prospering. Citadel Mall has lost many of its tenants. The West Ashley area has been established and most of its people are of an older age. Therefore they are not spending the money as other area's around Charleston. I would like to see a MIchaels and other such stores in West Ashley. The Windemere area and the Northbridge area are more alive with commerce. I have lived in West Ashley a long time and have noticed in the past few years the neighborhoods changing. As such so does the type of business that is needed for that change. Sadly I see no support from our local government. Finally St. Andrews Blvd. was paved. But the upkeep of certain area's is lacking. I agree with MIchael concerning Sam Rittenburg Blvd.

I also agree about Sam Rittenberg Blvd. Whatever happened to the City's famed design charette from about 10 years ago where residents and civic leaders gave input about Sam Rittenberg and a vision for this area? Whatever happened to the City's plans to landscape the medians like Coleman Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant. The City of Charleston and Mayor Riley don't care about this area of West Ashley. Bury the power lines, come back in and add some infrastructure improvements. That's what's needed along Sam Rittenberg Blvd.
