Yo Bo Bringing Southwest Flavor to South Windermere

Yo Bo Cantina Fresca opened its doors Friday bringing its Mexican flavor to South Windermere

Yo Burrito is stepping off the Peninsula and into one of West Ashley's busiest areas.

Yo Bo Cantina Fresca opened Friday in South Windermere Shopping Center (where South of Philly Pizza ussed to be). The new restaurant, Yo Burritto's second location operating in the Charleston area, differs slightly from the original downtown location with a menu designed to be a little bit more female friendly, according to General Manager Kat Gottfried.

"We were looking at this spot specifically for a while," Gottfried said.

The new Cantina adds to an already ecclectic mix of eateries in the shopping center that includes Osaka, Med Bistro, Three Little Birds Cafe, Normandy Farms Bakery, TCBY, Starbucks and the prepared foods at Earth Fare.

In addition to a Mexican/Southwest style menu Cantina Fresca will also feature Happy Hour specials, and Gottfried hopes those specials, in conjunction with a hip atmosphere inside, will entice people to hangout at the bar for a while. Most of the decor and fixtures at Cantina Fresca are recycled or repurposed, like the old dock planks that were turned into one of the walls inside.

Gottfried said the restaurant will be working out exactly what the neighborhood wants over the coming months before everything from hours of operation to menu specials are finalized. Currently it's open 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, though Gottfried said eventually it will probably be open Sundays as well.

Yo Bo hopes to capitalize on the significant number of women who are already coming to the shopping center for yoga classes and salon appointments by adding more salads and other lighter options geared toward female diners on the menu.

"It's the same basic building blocks on the menu, but we've added a few more salads and we're not doing ground beef here," Gottfried said. "Steak is still on the menu, but not the ground beef."

Cantina Fresca will also be offering delivery through Quick Foxes, the same company that deleivers for the downtown location, though that service hasn't begun just yet.
