Nikki Haley's Detractors Make Her Stronger

In the finale for BBC's Sherlock, there's a scene where the famed British detective has a spot of tea with his arch-nemesis Moriarty. The two have a verbal sparring match as Moriarty tells Sherlock, "Every fairy tale needs a good old-fashioned villain."

In the world of politics, the heroes and villains are relative, but you'd think Gov. Nikki Haley a master criminal for the ages with the way Democrats and union leaders have been acting.

It's actually to their detriment — the focus on a governor struggling to prove her relevance to her own party is giving her a shot of validity by all of these attacks.

On Tuesday, national political reporters returned their attention to the Palmetto State after video leaked of S.C. AFL-CIO chief Donna Dewitt hitting a piñata with a picture of Haley's face on it.

Democratic strategist Tyler Jones called it totally inappropriate. "There is absolutely no place for this in politics," he said. "You don't need a bat to beat Nikki Haley, you just need a brain."

Last week, we saw the end of @PhilBaileySC after the Democratic staff member for the S.C. State Senate, took his often comical rebuttals too far.

After the state Republican Party's fruitless effort to unilaterally put candidates back on the ballot after they didn't file their paperwork in order, Bailey tweeted: "@nikkihaley is the Sikh Jesus. She can resurrect an unlawful campaign from the dead by simply appearing at a @SCGOP hearing."

That was the last you'll hear from Bailey's personal twitter account — it has been cancelled. State Sen. Brad Hutto (D-Orangeburg) told The State, "I don't even know exactly what Twitter is, but he's not going to be doing it."

In both instances, these folks went too far in their attacks on Haley. But, their frustration is also grossly misplaced.

I'll give Haley credit for screaming the loudest in Columbia when it comes to the state's anti-union bona fides. But it's the state legislature that has been strengthening anti-union laws in the state.

And, in the dispute between Boeing and the National Labor Relations Board, it was likely opposition in Washington and not Haley's protests that turned the tide in that argument.

So, why focus your frustration on a team's No. 1 fan sitting in the bleachers? Why not just hate the team on the field — state and federal legislators.

As for Bailey's rant, it isn't Haley who is twisting arms on the election snafu. It's grassroots activists angered to see their conservative candidates forced off the ballot.

As Moriarty played with Sherlock, I was reminded of one exchange as I watched Dewitt take a bat to Haley's image, giving Haley credit for the state's anti-union ways. Or, for that matter, Bailey's implication that Haley forced the hand of the state GOP.

Lets not forget that this is a governor with GOP opponents seriously weighing a challenge to her re-election in 2014, actively working to dismiss her as ineffectual and easily replaced.

In a trial for the crime of the century, Sherlock had testified to Moriarty's unprecedented criminal mind. As they sat for tea after the acquittal, Sherlock realized his mistake.

"You were advertising all the way through the trial," Sherlock told Moriarty. "You were showing the world what you could do."

Moriarty smiled, "And you were helping."

More examples of the hypocrisy on the Left, with their "holier than thou" mentality, and showing their gutter levels of decency and tolerance for anyone who differs with them. They will keep on trying to nail something- anything!- to Haley, but it hasn't worked so far. Great example is with how the union thugs, backed by the Obama administration's NLRB, fought against Boeing. The hypocrisy continues...

As I pointed the last time you posted this information, you're completely incorrect. No union did anything against Boeing in SC - and neither did the NLRB. On that latter subject, what so many fail to recognize is that the NLRB is not pro-union, either - it's a middleman between unions and companies and employees. In fact, NLRB just finished a case AGAINST a union here in Charleston.

Haley is rapidly making our state an oasis for polluters and those who think education should be anything but public. Who is going to bring their company to SC if they can't breathe the air or drink the water, and the smartest thing their kid can say is " you want fries with that?". Just sell us down the river, Nikki...oh yeah, you already did that.

Reg- With that comment you have completely discredited yourself. The NLRB hearing held in Charleston was specifically because the grievance against Boeing in SC. The action was dropped because of political pressure from the NLRB action.

Liberals and their lies...Will it ever end?

False - there has never been a grievance filed against Boeing pertaining to its SC location. NOT ONE. Disagree? PROVE IT. Put up or shut up, SDR - we're not going to tolerate any propaganda. The hearing held here was the result of GOP folks who got campaign donations from Boeing; do a hearing here to make people think this location has anything to do with it, thus attempt to build up more support for the company. BUT THERE HAS NEVER, EVER, NOT ONCE BEEN ANY GRIEVANCE AGAINST BOEING IN SC. Again - you want to resort to that commie type of propaganda? Then try producing some valid source for one.

I believe the hearing in Charleston was a result of a separate complaint (not the International Association of Machinists vs. Boeing one) filed with the NLRB by some Charleston machinist union members against the IAM itself. The member’s complaint is supported by the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, largely funded by corporations with well publicized anti union positions.

Untrue, John. I attended that hearing in Charleston, and after taking in all the facts prior to. The only testimony at that hearing was from local people who had contracts with Boeing's new plant here, and on how much they'd hate to lose those contracts if Boeing packed up and left. *But there was never any such risk.* They also called NLRB's attorney - and everytime he responded to questions that defeated their argument, they (mostly Mick Mulvaney) shut him up (by yelling at him "yes or no! yes or no! that's all you can say!!"). No local union filed complaint against Boeing. The GOP was trying to take away arguments from the union in Washington State against Boeing, which filed complaint after Boeing violated federal law. And all the union in Wash was asking for was first rights to overflow (anything Chas facility couldn't handle). ... Please remember, all the anti-union folks jumping on Boeing's bandwagon on this thread, Boeing is the company that was fined for selling defense secrets to China, and fined another time for having welding done on its planes by untrained workers.

Reg; I’ll have to defer to your first hand knowledge. Do you have a link that would reveal the exact nature of the hearing? Was it an NLRB hearing or something else? It seems odd that they are held in a public forum with polititians (Mulvaney) involved the proceedings. This what I found;

http://www.laborunionreport.com/portal/2011/04/behind-the-obama-labor-boards-bashing-of-boeing-is-a-case-full-of-irony-and-union-failure/

http://www.nrtw.org/en/press/2011/12/boeing-employees-hit-machinist-union-12282011

Considering the sources, I found the whole ironic history of the union and Boeing’s plant in SC interesting.

Look at your sources, John. laborunionreport is a site devoted only to anti-union postings; it doesn't identify sources of its postings, and that site won't even reveal who owns it - check them on WhoIs http://whois.net/whois/laborunionreport.com "The IP address from which you have visited the Network Solutions Registrar WHOIS
database is contained within a list of IP addresses that may have failed
to abide by Network Solutions' WHOIS policy."

The other source is an open, blatant lobby group that does nothing but attack labor representation (right to work vs. right to representation). See it's about page: " Its mission is to eliminate coercive union power". The hearing here was called for by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform; the GOP majority in House heads that committee, with Rep. Issa as chair. He called it to further pursue his goals of getting rid of NLRB http://www.charlestonbusiness.com/news/40030-house-oversight-committee-issue-isn-rsquo-t-washington-vs-north-charleston-workers?rss=0 Forget the fact that NLRB has also represented people suing unions, including right here in Chas....issa and GOP just want to get rid of unions and rights to representation.

OK Reg..thanks. So the hearing in Charleston had little to do with the NLRB and unfair labor or union practices. It seems it was a dog and pony show for politicians to be seen advancing their own agendas which is breaking the unions and pleasing their backers.

“Forget the fact that NLRB has also represented people suing unions, including right here in Chas”

I wonder if there is any truth in the story from one of the posts I had that three Charleston Boeing workers filed a complaint with the NLRB against their machinist union.

In another article, I found it interesting that NLRB general counsel Lafe Solomon was quoted as saying that he was happy with outcome of the situation. Why wouldn’t he be? It sounds like it was a win-win for everyone. The IAM got a huge contract in Washington. South Carolina got a few thousand jobs. Boeing got away with moving jobs out of a union state under questionable legality. The politicians got a pulpit from which to proselytize from. Life goes on.

Nikki Haley is the laughing stock of South Carolina. People must remember that she is a liar, a conniving cheater, connected with dirty politics and and adulteress. The people of South Carolina that elected this woman were either stupid or simply didn't know what they were electing. Most people think it was because Sarah Palin gave her an endorsement. The tea baggers and red necks ate it up. I can asure you that Haley will not be re-elected and something big (a scandel) with come before her term is up.

Soon we will know who the Rino's/moderates are as they continue to help the Democrats with all of their big govt. entitlement programs and how they don’t want to get our SC economic programs under control. By the time, all of this comes to a head we can weed out the evil people hurting our State. With our eyes, right open and they sit right out in the open wanting us to be believing the lies they have been feeding everyone about our Governor, by these bad people and the media. Then we are left with counties helping the wrong people and, not knowing the truth at all, it all goes in a big bad circle that never gets fixed, Until Now!

Janice -- you act as if the Democrats are running the state! Sorry Republicans have been in charge for over a decade - you need to take RESPONSIBILITY for its deplorable condition. You may call Harrell and McConnell "RHINOs", but I see McConnell taking on Haley in the primaries -- though I seriously expect Haley NOT to run for a second term.
