Fused Glass Garden Workshop at Blue Heron Glass

1714 Old Towne Rd, Charleston, SC | Get Directions »
$60.00

In conjunction with its latest textile exhibit, Seasonal Fashion: Springtime in Charleston, the Charleston Museum once again teams up with Blue Heron Glass for a workshop that translates textiles into glass. The program begins with a guided tour of Springtime in Charleston with Curator of Textiles Jan Hiester. This exhibit displays an array of white, embroidered and lacy fashions of the 1900s - 1920s as well as examples of silk art embroidery, popular in the early 1900s, and beautiful silk batiks by Anna Heyward Taylor in the 1920s, reflecting the botanical themes enjoyed by artists and needleworkers of Charleston.

Participants then travel to Blue Heron Glass to learn the basics behind the science of fusing glass (melting compatible glasses together) to create a 5"x7" botanical panel. All of these techniques can be used in many fused projects in the future. All supplies provided; transportation is not.
