The National Council of Jewish Women and the Mount Pleasant Police Department Victim Services are hosting a 5K run/walk and crossfit competition in September in memory of Amanda Jo Kalman.

Kalman was found murdered in her West Ashley home in September 2011. Her husband Chesley Black has been charged with the crime.

The 5K and crossfit competition dubbed "Untying the Strings of Violence," is meant to raise awareness of and fight against domestic violence.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22 at Mount Pleasant Waterfront Memorial Park from 9 a.m. - noon. Adult entry fees are $20 for the race, or $30 for both the race and crossfit competition. Registration for children younger than 13 is $15. An additional $10 fee applies to anyone signing up the day of the race.

Online registration is available through ncjwcharleston.org or active.com.
