Bees Ferry Lane Closures Planned This Week

Closures run through Sept. 13.

Charleston County Government announces the following traffic alert regarding a road closure on Bees Ferry Road between Bear Swamp Road and U.S. 17 (Savannah Highway) and lane closures along Bees Ferry Road and Grand Oaks Boulevard as part of the Bees Ferry Road Widening Project

    • September 8- 10   A road closure on Bees Ferry Road will occur between Bear Swamp Road and U.S. 17 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.so workers can install drainage pipes.  Message boards will detour traffic to Main Road.
    • September 9-10 Lane closures will occur along Bees Ferry Road and at intersecting roads between Dove Haven Court and Highway 61 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.to perform paving operations.  Workers will be present to direct traffic through any lane closures.
    • September 10-13 Lane closures will occur along Grand Oaks Boulevard at the Bees Ferry Road Intersection between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. so workers can install a drainage pipe.  Workers will be present to direct traffic through any lane closures.
    • All lanes will be opened up back to traffic by 5 a.m. each day.
    • All road work is dependent on weather. If the weather is poor September 8-13, work will continue on the next weather-permitting night.

Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed June 2014, is to make improvements to the entire 4.5-mile length of Bees Ferry Road from Savannah Highway (U.S. 17) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61). The project was requested by the City of Charleston and is funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Program. Partial funding for the project was approved by voters in the second Transportation Sales Tax bond referendum.
