Nighttime Road Closures Planned on Bees Ferry Road

Closures began Monday night, run through Sept. 27.

Charleston County Government announces the following traffic alert regarding the closure of Main Road between Bees Ferry Road and U.S. 17 as part of the Bees Ferry Road Widening Project:

    • The closure on Main Road will occur Sept. 23-27 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. so workers can relocate utilities and install a drainage pipe.
    • Signs near the construction site will help drivers detour to the Bees Ferry Road and U.S. 17 intersection to reach their destination. See map of detour: http://roads.charlestoncounty.org/3786_001.pdf.
    • Message boards have been installed on Bees Ferry Road and Main Road to notify drivers of the upcoming closure.
    • All road work is dependent on weather. If the weather is poor Sept. 23-27, work will continue on the next weather-permitting night.

Drivers traveling through the project’s construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed June 2014, is to make improvements to the entire 4.5-mile length of Bees Ferry Road from Savannah Highway (U.S. 17) to Ashley River Road (S.C. 61).
