The 50-member Carson-Newman University A Cappella Choir is coming to Charleston in March.
The group, the university's premier touring ensemble, will perform at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21 at Ashley River Baptist Church at 1101 Savannah Hwy.
"A Cappella is the University's most select audition-only ensemble. We are faith-based and stress quality performance in reflection of the gifts God has blessed us with," said Dr. Eric Thorson, the ensemble's director as well as a Carson-Newman professor of music. "I like to say that God has perfect pitch but we offer our best and, through grace, he accepts the best we have."
The performance is free and open to the public. The program will feature a variety of sacred music from Renaissance era hymns to contemporary worship music.
The Charleston stop is one of 10 performances on the group's five-state 2013 tour. Carson-Newman is a Christian university in Jefferson City, Tenn., and has been recognized as a leading liberal arts institution by U.S. News, Forbes.com and The Princeton Review.
