DEW: 1,000 More Employed in Charleston Area

Charleston area unemployment rate still below national average.

One thousand more people in the Charleston area found jobs August, according to S.C. Department of Employment Workforce. 

The Charleston area's unemployment rate is at 6.9 percent, below the national average of 7.3 percent. Despite a .3 percent increase in employment in August, the Charleston area also saw a .2 percent increase in unemployment in August as more people enter the workforce.

Since August 2012, the Charleston area has seen an increase of 4,500 jobs, equating to a 1.4 percent increase in employment. 

In August, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.1 percent.
