Wounded Warrior Riding Modified Harley

Jeremiah "Jay" Arbogast, a retired U.S. Marine, is living his dream of riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, despite being a paraplegic in a wheelchair. 

On Saturday, Arbogast picked up his modified 2013 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUTG Tri Glide Ultra Classic trike motorcycle from Low Country Harley-Davidson in Charleston.

Arbogast first got the desire to ride while attending the Lt. Dan Band Weekend in Charleston. He was attending the event as one of the wounded warriors honored over the weekend. 

Some motorcyclists escorted the warriors from Beaufort to Charleston and offered them a chance to ride on the back of their bikes. Arbogast excitedly agreed and "five minutes into the ride, [he] had the itch to ride," he said.

A hand-shifter was added to the motorcycle to allow Arbogast to control the trike. He is looking forward to riding motorcycles with his wife and joining the "motorcycle family," he said.

Arbogast suffered a trauma while serving in the military which left him paralyzed from the waist down. But that accident caused him to have a renewed sense of life, he said.

"Many people think that if you are in a wheelchair, you are confined to it 24/7," said Arbogast. "I’d rather live my life to the fullest – if there is a way to do something, I’ll figure it out."
