Arrest Made in Johnson Street Shooting

A downtown man was charged in connection with a July 1 shooting on Johnson Street that left another man wounded.

Charleston Police on Tuesday charged a Blake Street man in connection with a Monday shooting on Johnson Street.

Tory Collins, 28, is charged with assault and battery of a high an aggravated nature and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to a Charleston Police Department statement.

The charges stem from a shooting Monday on Johnston Street that left a Charleston man with a gunshot wound in his back, according to a CPD incident report. The shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. Monday, July 1.

A Charleston police officer, patrolling nearby on Morrison Drive and Harris Street heard approximately 8-10 gunshots, then saw several people running down Harris Street towards Morrison Drive, according to the incident report. The officer then encountered the shooting victim who said: "They shot me." The victim was transported to MUSC for treatment.
