Two Charged in Botched Flemming Road Burglary

The suspects allegedly fled when a victim began screaming

Charleston Police officers charged two men in connection with a West Ashley home invasion just minutes after it happened Thursday night.

Tradd Bethea Hook, 32, of Climbing Tree Court, is charged with attempted armed robbery, burglary 1st degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Alexander Spotswood Hassell, 31, of Lochmore Terrace, is charged with attempted armed robbery, burglary 1st degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful possession of a handgun, according to a police statement.

Officers stopped the men in an SUV matching the description of a vehicle fleeing from a botched robbery on Flemming Road, according to the statement. 

Around 10 p.m. Thursday, July 18, two men forced their way into a Flemming Road apartment and demanded money from the residents. One of the victims began arguing with the men, and another victim started screaming when one of the men reached into his waistband, "as if he was reaching for a handgun," according to the report.

When the screaming began the men fled from the scene in an SUV, according to the statement.
