Folly Beach Park Re-opening July 3

After nearly two years Folly Beach County Park is ready for visitors again.

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission will celebrate the re-opening of Folly Beach County Park Wednesday, July 3.

A grand re-opening ceremony is planned for 10 a.m.

The park has been closed since storm surge heightened tides scoured away much of the beach at the county park in August 2011. A re-nourishment project that pumped 415,000 cubic yards of sand from a sandbar in the Folly River back onto the beach recently wrapped up. A 745-foot long terminal groin was also installed to prevent the pumped sand from washing away again.
