The Battling Bishops will take on the Indian Land Warriors for the AA Socce Championship today. The Bishops will be playing for a state record 16th state championship in soccer. The game begins at 1:30 p.m. at Gilbert High School in Lexington County. S.C. Patch will carry live blog coverage of the game today beginning at 1 p.m.
Despite a late rally Bishop England couldn't overcome Chesnee in the last game of the AA HIgh School Baseball Championship Series Friday
The Bishops left a lot of runners on base in their AA State Championship series fianle loss to Chesnee Friday. The Eagles pulled into the lead with a run in the fourth inning and extended it to 5-0 after adding another four runs in the fifth. Bishop England threatened a comeback, plating three runs in the seventh then loading the bases again before Chesnee managed to make the game's final out, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required). Bishop England also loaded the bases in the third inning before a double play sent the Bishops back into the field. Bishop England is one game away from its sixth state title in 11 years, but it has to get past Chesnee one more time to do it.
Since 2003 the Bishop England baseball team has done very well in odd numbered years. In fact in every odd numbered year since 2003 the school has won the AA State Title. The Bishops are 27 outs away from winning their sixth title in 11 years, but they'll have to get past a Chesnee team that shut them out in the series opener. Bishop England came back Wednesday to take an early lead in Game 2, and held on for the win, but lost their Game 3 starting pitcher to an on-field injury suffered when a throw struck Tradd Lowman in the head while he was running bases, knocking him out of the line-up. Patrick Clarey, who pitched Game 1 will take the mound for the Bishops Friday.
The Academic Magnet High School girls' soccer team defeated Christ Church Episcopal on Friday afternoon in Gilbert.

Bishop England kept hopes for another state title alive and evened the series with Chesnee Wednesday
The Battling Bishops took an early lead and never looked back in Game 2 of the AA State Championship Series. Bishop England tied the series with Chesnee on a 3-1 win on the back of a dominant pitching performance from left-hander Ryan Rogers, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required). The Bishops struck early, plating all three runs in an explosive second inning during which eight men went to the plate. Jonathan Browning knocked in the first two runs with a single up the middle. Later in the inning Reed Fosberry singled to right to bring in the other run. After a scoreless game and two scoreless overtimes penalty kicks decided the S.C. 2013 Lower State champion
Nobody likes a tie, so when Bishop England and Academic Magnet were both scoreless after regulation and two overtimes, the 2013 Lower State AA Boys Soccer title game went to penalty kicks. The Bishops outscored the Raptors 3-1 with goals from Drew Costa, Nick Saunders and Joel Bunting, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required). A couple of late inning runs lifted Chesnee over Bishop England the opening game of the State AA Championship series
After plating a run in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie, Bishop England gave up two late runs to drop the first game in the best-of-three State AA Championship series to Chesnee. The Eagles took the lead away in the wild bottom half of the same inning. The tying run came from Colton Grant who singled, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Drew Fisher's double, though Fisher was caught trying to turn it into a triple for the second out of the inning, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required). The Academic Magnet Girls Soccer team advanced to the State Championship game with a win over Bishop England Monday
The Lady Raptors were too much for Bishop England to handle Monday as Academic Magnet cruised to a Lower State title and shot at the State Championship with a 3-0 shutout win. The win marks Academic Magnet's third straight Lower State title. The effort was led by star Kallie Peurifoy who booted in two first half goals, the Post and Courier reports (subscription required). In a rematch of last year's State Title game the Lady Raptor will take on defending State Champion Christ Church on Friday at Gilbert High School in Lexington County. Tonight the Academic Magnet boys soccer team hosts the Bishop England boys for their own Lower State showdown. The winner will face either Indian Land or Ninety-Six Saturday at Gilbert High School.

A School of the Arts senior was in hot water after tweeting a picture that included the "N" word in a caption, but Charleston County School District officials revised her punishment to allow her to attend prom and graduation
A weekend reversal of a Charleston County School Board decision will allow a School of the Arts senior to attend her senior prom and graduation. The student was in trouble for sending a tweet about one of black classmates, saying if that student "makes one more got damn remark in Roger’s class tomorrow ... (expletive) will drop." The Lowcountry remains well represented in the spring sports playoffs as the school year winds down. On the soccer field both the boys and girls squads from AA powerhouses Bishop England and Academic Magnet are facing off this Monday and Tuesday for Lower State titles and the chance to play in the State Championship games. Both of Academic Magnet's teams entered the playoffs as a 1 seed this year, and Bishop England two squads each came in as 2 seeds, so the Raptors will have home field advantage in both contests.
