Charleston Tops Travel + Leisure List of Best Cities

The Holy City has been no stranger to accolades in recent years, and this year it managed to unseat New York City from the pinacle of Travel + Leisure's World's Best list of top cities in the U.S. and Canada.

Charleston also ranks seventh in world on the TL Top 10 Cities in the world, it's first appearance on the international list.

Last year TL ranked Charleston as the number 4 city in the U.S. and Canada. Charleston rose to the top spot displacing 2012's number 1 city, New York, which dropped to the third spot on this year's list. Chicago dropped from number 2 to number 4, and San Francisco also rose on the 2013 list to number 2 from number 3.

Two Charleston hotels also made the magazine's Top 100 Hotels List, the Market Pavilion Hotel hit the list in a four-way tie for the 52nd spot, and the Wentworth Mansion came in at number 80 (dropping all the way from number 12 on the 2012 list).
